PPG Central Europe aerospace center approved for Airbus sealants packaging

6/22/2017
The Central Europe application support center (ASC) operated by PPG in Hamburg, Germany, has been approved by Airbus for repackaging aerospace sealants from bulk containers into customer-friendly point-of-use packages.

PARIS AIR SHOW, June 22, 2017 – The Central Europe application support center (ASC) operated by PPG (NYSE:PPG) in Hamburg, Germany, has been approved by Airbus for repackaging aerospace sealants from bulk containers into customer-friendly point-of-use packages.

PPG will repackage three grades of PR-1782 low-density fuel tank and fuselage sealant into SEMKIT® packages for Airbus and its subcontractors as well as Airbus aircraft operators and maintenance and repair operations in 22 countries across Europe.

According to Ulrich Krueger, PPG managing director, aerospace sales and services, Central Europe, PPG worked with Airbus to understand Airbus’s needs and to recommend the optimal Semkit packages for the sealants.

Semkit packages are well established in the industry for pre-proportioned, two-part aerospace sealants, and Airbus is well acquainted with their time-saving, efficiency and quality benefits,” Krueger said. “The Hamburg ASC offers tailored packaging capabilities and is strategically located to supply Airbus and affiliated operations across Europe. With expanded sealants production capacity at PPG’s Shildon, England, facility, we have the unmatched ability to meet their needs today and in the future.”

The Semkit package is a ready-to-use cartridge-based system for storing, mixing and applying multiple-component sealants and many other materials. Semkit packages ensure accurate proportioning of the materials because the premeasured components are stored in different compartments within the cartridge.

PR-1782 low-density aircraft fuel tank and fuselage sealant offers as much as a 30 percent weight saving by volume over traditional sealants used for those applications, affording enhanced aircraft fuel economy. It is qualified by Airbus for all of the aircraft manufacturer’s airframes. PPG will repackage Class A for brush, Class B for extrusion and Class C for roller application.

PPG and its joint venture Sealants Europe SAS, trading as PPG Aerospace Sealants Europe, each earned a 2016 Best Performer Award from Airbus for supplying sealants and coatings.

Paris Air Show visitors can see a display of SEMCO® packaging and application systems at the PPG exhibit in Hall 2b at Stand C105. The International Paris Air Show is June 19-25 at Le Bourget.

PPG’s global aerospace business offers coatings, sealants, transparencies, packaging and application systems, and transparent armor, as well as chemical management and other services. For more information, visit www.ppgaerospace.com.
