PPG Aerospace – Transparencies is a leading and experienced source for original-equipment and replacement windshields and side cockpit windows for airplanes produced by The Boeing Company. As the sole manufacturer of original-equipment cockpit windows for 767 airplanes, PPG is the only supplier able to provide the latest enhancements for replacement windshields and glass or acrylic side cockpit windows.

PPG provides options to meet transparency replacement needs.

Operators can buy new replacement windshields and side cockpit windows from PPG and enjoy the convenience and time savings of buying directly from a single source for their entire fleet of airplanes produced by The Boeing Company.

PPG’s exchange program for 767 windshields and acrylic No. 2 and No. 3 side cockpit windows offers cost savings over new parts. Operators return a windshield or acrylic side cockpit window to PPG and receive a new or rebuilt replacement part from stock, affording the most efficient turn times. In addition, PPG offers overhaul and repair of the No. 2 framed window assembly.

The B767 all glass design features chemically strengthened glass, advanced urethane technology, and ant-ice/anti-fog coatings.  The all glass design is based on Herculite® II chemically strengthened glass developed by PPG.  Herculite® II is extensively used in commercial, regional, and general aviation aircraft.  Herculite® II offers exceptional strength, excellent optical characteristics, and high strength to weight ratio compared to thermally tempered glass.

It is used in transparency systems where designs require high strength to weight ratio, high performance, and long service life.  Additionally, it offers greater damage tolerance and scratch resistance as a result of its high surface hardness.  The unique properties of Herculite® II chemically strengthened glass allow lightweight cockpit windows to be designed for structural, load bearing applications.  For these applications, aircraft loads are transferred through the cockpit window, thus allowing for reduced weight in the fuselage structure.

Since its introduction, Herculite® II chemically strengthened glass has been field proven in all cockpit window applications for both structural and nonstructural applications.  Herculite® II is used on other commercial aircraft, including the B757, B777, and B787.
