2015 has been a very active and exciting year for the PPG Aerospace Coatings business. The acquisition of Cuming Microwave and the qualification of our Desothane® HD/CA9008 basecoat clearcoat at Airbus, both detailed in this publication, have driven significant activity. The integration of the Cuming Microwave and PPG Aerospace businesses is moving along very well. And interest in our Desothane® HD basecoat clearcoat continues to increase as customers recognize its benefits which include increased application efficiency, excellent application robustness and reparability, and terrific hiding power, resulting in low film thicknesses and reduced weight. With our qualification to the AMS3095 standard, PPG Aerospace has been supplying Desothane® HD basecoat clearcoat into the aftermarket for over 5 years with more than 250 aircraft successfully painted. During this extended period, our long-term customers have seen the excellent service life demonstrated by our product, including high gloss retention and robust adhesion.

The aerospace industry’s emphasis to replace chrome-based products is a driver in our technology portfolio. The PPG Aerospace Coatings business continues to focus upon the advancement of chrome free, corrosion-inhibiting products across several of our product lines:

• The introduction of Desoprime™ CF/CA7502 and CA7502E chrome free exterior primers over 5 years ago, with applications on well over 1000 aircraft, has given PPG more experience in the manufacture, supply, and performance evaluation of chrome free primers than any other aerospace coatings supplier.
   
• During the past year, PPG Aerospace introduced the first chrome free wash primer system in the industry, Desoprime™ CF/CA7530 and CA7065, which were qualified to AMS3095.
   
• PPG also introduced Desoprime™ CF/CA7521 which can be used as an exterior and structural primer.
   
• PPG Aerospace continues to advance the industry with the growth of our Aerocron™ electrocoat primer which provides unique value to our customers. Those customers who have integrated this product line are reporting significant component manufacturing cost and weight savings while achieving superior application efficiencies as compared to spray-applied systems.
   
• With our acquisition of Deft, Inc. in 2013, we focused on utilizing key Deft technologies to launch our chrome free, corrosion-inhibiting pretreatment product line. The Deft product line also includes important chrome free, corrosion inhibiting products in both water- reducible (44GN098) and solvent borne (02GN084) resin systems.
   

And our Research and Technology organizations are focused on the development of environmentally friendly products that comply with the various internationally mandated environmental regulations. We will continue to develop new technologies and products that eliminate chrome in the industry.
