PPG introduces lightweight battery-powered aerospace sealant dispensing tool

6/15/2017
PPG has introduced a new battery-powered aerospace sealant dispensing tool that is easier to use than traditional manual and pneumatic applicators and dispenses at faster rates. The SEMCO® model 1250 sealant tool weighs less than three pounds and is ergonomically designed with cordless and hoseless operation, compared with a standard Semco 250A dispensing tool that weighs about two pounds and is typically tethered to a 10-foot hose.

PARIS AIR SHOW, June 15, 2017 – PPG (NYSE:PPG) has introduced a new battery-powered aerospace sealant dispensing tool that is easier to use than traditional manual and pneumatic applicators and dispenses at faster rates. The SEMCO® model 1250 sealant tool weighs less than three pounds and is ergonomically designed with cordless and hoseless operation, compared with a standard Semco 250A dispensing tool that weighs about two pounds and is typically tethered to a 10-foot hose.

The lightweight SEMCO® 1250 battery-powered aerospace sealant dispensing tool by PPG is easier to use than traditional manual and pneumatic applicators and dispenses at faster rates.

The new SEMCO® model 1250 battery-operated sealant dispensing tool by PPG includes two 10.8-volt lithium ion batteries, 2.5-ounce or 6-ounce retainer, a charge base and a charger cord.

According to Dillon Desai, PPG global market development manager for aerospace sealants and packaging, the Semco model 1250 is designed for application of sealants, adhesives, potting compounds and other materials packaged in Semco disposable cartridges or SEMKIT® packages that are used for multicomponent materials.

“The new Semco model 1250 dispensing tool does not have to be connected to a power source, making operation less cumbersome,” Desai said. “It operates on a 10.8-volt rechargeable lithium ion battery and can dispense up to 60 cartridges before the charge is exhausted. With its ergonomic design, it is easy to balance at the center. And a recoil effect reduces sealant drool after dispensing for cleaner operation with less waste.”

The battery takes about 60 minutes to fully recharge, he said.
